My "Banana Peel" act won me the title Queen of Burlesque- Miss Exotic World in 2015, the highest honor in the burlesque field.
I have a high standard for innovation. I spend a lot of time adding my personality to everything I do. Even when I do classic acts, I put my own unique spin on things.
For this one, I had the idea to make a peeling banana gown-- which I had never seen before. There are lots of banana costumes in the world, but I had not seen a glamorous one that started as a closed banana and peeled open.
I took my idea to Seattle designer, Danial Webster. He has been costuming burlesque and drag performers for a long time, and this collaboration took us 2 years to complete, due to the long distance between us (I was in NY)-- we had to mail pieces back and forth to each other or wait until we could meet up in person. Each iteration of the costume allowed me time to refine the performance and sharpen the tricks like peeling my butt and bra. The peeling finger is always a favorite moment too.
Performed to Andre Williams' "Let Me Put It In," this act is one of my most-requested. I am very proud of this one-- I set out to make MY version of a traditional gown-n-glove burlesque act, but to elevate a basic striptease to new creative heights. After competing 5 times for Miss Exotic World, I'm grateful that I won with this one.
Oh, how I love a theme! Nothing makes me happier than squeezing all of the jokes out of ia simple idea which is why every single layer peels and reveals. Of course, the finishing touch is a wild, raw display of powerful female sexuality. Just the way I like it!
The dress has been seen on countless stages ranging from New York City nightclubs to Australian Spiegeltents, to German television, to Taylor Mac's "24 Decade History of Popular Music" in Los Angeles.
Banana Peel is a real crowd pleaser!
